Bargaining chips

In every relationship, you have a winner and a loser. The winner makes the rules, the loser risks everything. I once boasted to a friend about never letting myself in too deep, about knowing just the right point where enough was enough. I would not be more in love with someone than he or she was with me.

With you, I made that crucial mistake. I let the point go deeper and deeper. I let myself believe in love. Against my better judgment, I let myself trust you more than I trusted that night would turn into day.

So I lost (you could break my heart but I couldn't touch yours) and now I have nothing left to lose. Nothing left to lose, but you.

I'm still searching hard for the guts to walk away.
